Adam’s Dairy Landing and Cornerstones of Care Project

Jun 17, 2019 | Blog, Kansas City Clients, Landscape Maintenance, Our Clients

TivaWe had the pleasure and privilege of working with our client Adam’s Dairy Landing in Blue Springs and one of the nearest and dearest programs in KC to us – Cornerstones of Care‘s vocational health program, on a recent outdoor landscaping project.

True North Outdoor connected the vocational program, led by Theo Bunch, to our client Adam’s Dairy Landing and ADL hired them to build the sculpture and planter boxes/beds in an area dedicated for guests to enjoy themselves at the commercial retail property.

This vocational health program helps youth who are either homeless or coming out of the foster care system and need employment learn marketable skillsets such as building trades, landscaping and culinary arts.

These living wage jobs have real futures and provide the capacity for these kids and young adults to make a living for themselves, since most have no financial support and have to provide for themselves right away, or as they pursue higher education. Cornerstones of Care does the initial training and works with other groups to help place the youth after they leave the foster care system.

Theo Bunch said, “Everything we do is to benefit foster kids and families in need, so when Adam’s Dairy Landing hired us, that helped us in what we’re doing in the program. True North Outdoor is ethical and treats their people right, so this is the kind of opportunity we’re looking for for our kids. We look forward to future projects with True North!”

There are many ways to get involved with the work Cornerstones of Care is doing. Bunch said they are always looking for mentors and volunteers to work with the kids.

True North Outdoor also donated $20,000 in plants to the organization to help them beautify their property and raise money for the program.

“Anytime someone hires us to do a job, thats a learning opportunity. We’re always looking for materials and tools. We’re going to be selling the plants True North donated at a local music festival to raise money for the program,” said Bunch.

This small partnership is representative of the kind of work we are proud to be doing in and around Kansas City.  We believe partnering with our community to make a lasting impact in the lives of its people, plants and properties isn’t just a good idea, it’s the right way to do it.

For us, this is truly bio-centric landscaping at its finest.

More on the Cornerstones of Care Vocational Health Program

These are the Cornerstones of Care youth working in the vocational health program. In this program, they learn trades in jobs that have a living wage – jobs that have real futures for them. Here they learn valuable skills so they will be able to support themselves and make a living doing things in the landscape industry, building trades and culinary arts.

The planters are assembled for Adams Dairy Landing. True North did not make a profit on the project. All the proceeds of the project went directly to Cornerstones of Care’s vocational health program.

Here, one of the youth is working on the planter boxes that were installed at Adams Dairy Landing as part of a partnership project True North Outdoor facilitated.
