NOT JUST SALT: Why the products your subcontractor uses matter
2019-2020 is expected to be another tough year for salt availability across the nation and the world at large.
That’s why liquids are more essential than ever to our operation and one of the best ways we limit liability for us and our customers when it comes to material shortages.
Liquids have been used heavily in the Northeast for a long time, only coming to Kansas City after True North introduced them to the local market. Liquids are essential to a strong and versatile snow response plan for several reasons. We use less raw material, which is obviously key when going into a salt shortage and resources are precious. Liquids also work well as a pretreatment that will stay for days in advance of the storm.

We require and use less raw material
Going into a salt shortage, every subcontractor knows that resources will be precious. If your property is serviced by a company that doesn’t pre-purchase and plan for materials they need, you might not get serviced. And if you’re one of their smaller properties, you might be even further down the list in terms of priorities. Resources are precious during a salt shortage. Just last year we had salt shipped in from as far away as Egypt!
We pre-purchase and reserve material
As a company, we pre-purchase 7-10,000 tons of bulk road salt, 60,000 gallons of brine, 10,000 gallons of liquid magnesium and 50 semis of ice melt.
We store material on-site at our headquarters and at salt depots around the Kansas City metro
We store materials all over the city for ease of access during the harshest weather and most demanding storms. No company in Kansas City has the infrastructure we do when it comes to operational capacity.
True North Outdoor stores more than 5,000 gallons of salt brine and pre-treatment liquids on-site at our facility so it’s ready for our immediate and urgent use.
